Ashmore Elections
Elections for Ashmore Officials
Elections are the perfect opportunity for residents to make their voices heard, by casting a ballot and also by stepping up to fill a role as public official, serving their neighbors and representing their community.
Ashmore officials are elected in the springtime Consolidated Election every odd-numbered year, and elected officials hold 4-year terms beginning May 1 after their respective election. Officials are not party-affiliated. As such, there is no primary election to narrow candidates. All candidates are listed as "Independent" and are voted on simultaneously.
On April 1, 2025, three Trustees will be elected to their 4-year terms. In addition, one Trustee who was appointed to fill an empty seat will be required to be elected into the remaining 2 years of his term.
Anyone interested in filling any of these 4 positions may pick up a packet from the Village Clerk between August 20 and November 18, 2024.
In 2027, three Trustees and the Village President will be elected to their 4-year terms. Packets will be available in the fall of 2026 at a time to be announced later.
The Clerk and Treasurer positions are appointed annually; they are not elected positions.
Comparing Ashmore Village and Ashmore Township
Coles County is divided up into 12 geographic sections called Townships. Every Coles County community lies within one of these townships, but the township also encompasses the rural/woodland/farmland outside the communities' boundaries.
Ashmore Township lies east of the Embarras River and extends the east-side county line. It is bordered by East Oakland Township to the north and Hutton Township to the south. (See image of Coles County above.)
Within Ashmore Township lies the Village of Ashmore. They are two separate government agencies, led by different elected officials. All of Ashmore Township's residents vote at the Ashmore Community Center, but only registered voters residing within the Village corporate boundaries may vote for Ashmore Village's officials.
Election Resources
Nomination papers are filed with the Village Clerk (Local Election Official). However, the election process is regulated, overseen, and recorded by the County Clerk's office.
