Water-Related Fees:

Water Rates per monthly statement cycle:

-- In Town: $26.00 base rate (includes 2,000 gallons) plus $0.0134 per gallon in excess of 2,000
-- Out of Town: $33.60 base rate (incl. 2,000 gallons) plus $0.0173 per gallon in excess of 2,000

Meter-Testing Fee: As an Ashmore water customer, if you believe that your meter is not accurately measuring your water usage, you can request that the meter be removed and sent off to be tested by a third-party company. If the meter is determined to be inaccurate in favor of the Village, then the Village will cover the cost of the shipping/testing. If the meter is determined to be accurate OR inaccurate in the customer’s favor, then the resident will be required to cover the cost of shipping/testing (estimated $25 plus $25 S/H).
 

Zoning-Related Fees:

  • Building Permit: 
    • Less than 200 sq ft: $50.00
    • 200 sq ft or more: $75.00
  • Rezoning or Zoning Amendments: $50.00 plus legal fees
  • Special Use or Variance: $75.00 plus legal fees
 
 

Ordinance Violation Fines & Penalties:

General Penalty (1-4) for any code violation where the fine is not specified: up to $750
 
  • Animal Control (4-2) Violation:
    • Ashmore’s Village Code defines penalties for any violation of the animal control code; however, Village precedence is that dangerous, diseased, or at large animals are addressed through the Coles County Animal Shelter and owners are penalized through their system; animal cruelty is turned over to the Sheriff’s Department and Animal Shelter and penalized through their respective systems. Otherwise, and for all other animal control violations:
    • First Offense: $100
    • Second Offense within 12 months of previous offense: $150
    • Third Offense within 12 months of previous offense: $200
    • Fourth Offense or more within 12 months of previous offense: $250-$750
  • Fire Hazards, Rubbish, Sewage, & Pollution of Waters (3-2):
    • First Offense: $10-$100
    • Second Offense: $25-$200
  • Floodplain Development (Title 9) Violation: $50-$750
  • Garage Sale (2-6) Violation: $25
  • Graffiti (4-4): $200-$750 plus cost of restoration
  • Grass & Weeds (4-1) Violation: if not abated by owner/resident/manager, shall be abated by the Village. Cost of abatement will be billed to owner and/or liened against the property
  • Housing Discrimination (4-5): $10-$750
  • Junk Dealers & Junkyard (2-2) Violation: $25-$750
  • Liquor Control (2-1) Violation: Revocation of License plus General Penalty and legal fees
  • Minor Curfew (4-3-1) Violation: $10-$500 and/or Community Service
  • Minors with Alcohol (Accepting, Purchase, or Possessing) (2-1-17): $25-$750
  • Non-Highway Vehicle (5-4) Violation: $20-$100
  • Nuisance (3-1, precedence) Citation:
    • Nuisances include: Junk, Garbage, & Rubbish; Dirt, Gravel, & Concrete; Parking in Front Yard; Parking Unlicensed Vehicle; Grass, Weeds, & Noxious Matter; Bulk Waste; and Non-Maintained Property
    • Verbal/Written Notice with a 10-day abatement period before a citation is issued
    • First Offense within 12 months of abatement period expiring: $100
    • Second Offense within 12 months of previous offense: $150
    • Third Offense within 12 months of previous offense: $200
    • Fourth Offense or more within 12 months of previous offense: $250
  • Open Burning (3-5, precedence) Violation:
    • Verbal Warning: burn must be extinguished immediately; thereafter:
    • First Offense: $100
    • Second Offense within 12 months of previous offense: $150
    • Third Offense within 12 months of previous offense: $200
    • Fourth Offense or more within 12 months of previous offense: $250
  • Parking (5-3) Violation: $25-$750
  • Pawnbroker (2-3) Violation: $200-750
  • Peddler / Solicitor (2-4) Violation: Misdemeanor with up to $500 fine
  • Septic System (3-3) Violation: $100-$750 plus cost of correction
  • Subdivision Development (Title 8) Violation: $25
  • Video Gaming (2-8) Violation: Revocation of License plus General Penalty and legal fees
  • Zoning (Title 7) Violation, including failure to apply for building permit, special use permit, or variance: $25-$750
