Sure, they’re soft and fuzzy, and they make a compelling argument.

BUT this week & next, the Village is working with the Coles County Animal Shelter to put out live traps.

On Friday, August 23rd & 30th, all stray cats in the humane traps will get neutered and re-released in an effort to control the stray cat population. (The grant-funded program is called “TNR” or “Trap-Neuter-Release.”)

We can only catch the cats if they’re hungry.

So starting on Wednesday (today!) PLEASE DON'T FEED THE STRAY CATS!

Also, if you see any live traps around town, please leave them alone. We will load them up with delicious food on Thursday evening to lure in the hungry kitten-making machines. Then we’ll carefully fix them with love and compassion and send them back on their way.
